Shohin and mame trees from Taisho en 1

September 26, 2013

This are some of the mame and shohin trees at Taisho en bonsai nursery Shizuoka Japan. This is one of the leading shohin nurseries in the world. Very high standards are maintained there. International bonsai school is also located there. The master is Urushibata, and is well known for his techniques all over the world. Some techniques are named after him. He personally teaches the students and is wonderful, kind, patient man. My Ojakata ( my master) is the best! I learned there from morning to evening, and enjoyed every second of it..
All this trees were styled, looked after and photographed by Asanuma San, the mame Master. He gave me lots of pictures for my blog.

Trachelospermum aziaticum. A tropical tree, from the jasmine family, a climber with large internodes, and very slow to thicken a trunk. Very popular and expensive bonsai in Japan. It is always styled like this traditionally.

Elaeagnus pungens
